Background
Requirement
Following an internal review Aldi decided that the current performance of their solar installations were not meeting their expectation. Coupled with a traditional approach to maintenance thorough a rigid RRM schedule, low performing solar panels were not being fixed or replaced in good time. Therefore, Aldi needed a new approach to improve the solar performance.
The system designed and installed by Enertech FM has been transformative in our journey to net zero. We are harvesting far greater energy returns than previous years and have reduced our maintenance cost to boot.
Our Response
Mark Jewitt, Operations Manager designed a system to capture solar radiance and the corresponding performance of the panels, utilising real time data. Andy Horn, Lead BMS Engineer then led the site by site roll out.
We installed mounted sensors to measure the solar radiance and an energy meter to assess the performance of the panels. We then wrote a software programme to assess the solar radiance versus the performance of the panels. Where the solar radiance meter had a higher reading than the performance of the panel, we would instruct an engineer to go to site.
This allowed Aldi to move away from a traditional PPM to a data driven maintenance program resulting in far higher returns of energy form the solar panels.
Result
Stuart Price, Real Estate Manager at Aldi was proud of the work undertaken by Enertech FM. He said, ‘The system designed and installed by Enertech FM has been transformative in our journey to net zero. We are harvesting far greater energy returns than previous years and have reduced our maintenance cost to boot.
